The Rundown

Situated next to Creek Park in downtown San Anselmo, Kuro Nami Japanese Kitchen opened its doors in late 2024. Founded by Jukreewat (“Jackie”) Suthon of The Baan Thai, the restaurant offers a dynamic take on Japanese cuisine that goes well beyond sushi.

The streamlined interior, dressed in shades of white, grey, and black, keeps the focus where it belongs, on the plate. The menu highlights bold, thoughtfully crafted dishes inspired by izakaya-style dining, blending refined technique with expressive flavors. Guests can expect a mix of shareable plates, seasonal preparations, and carefully composed offerings that showcase both tradition and modern creativity. A curated selection of wine, beer, and sake completes the experience.

Kuro Nami was born from a deep passion and a touch of obsession for Japanese cuisine. What began as an admiration for the art of sushi and the philosophy of Japanese cooking evolved into a broader mission to honor time-honored traditions while continually pushing creative boundaries. Here, every dish is a conversation between past and future, where precision meets play and elegance meets energy.
