Get ready to move your feet when George Porter Jr. and his Runnin' Pardners take the stage at Sweetwater Music Hall on Friday, April 10th and Saturday, April 11th!
Porter is an award-winning bassist, songwriter, and vocalist best known as a founding member of The Meters — New Orleans' seminal funk band and one of the progenitors of the entire funk music genre. Formed alongside Art 'Poppa Funk' Neville, Leo Nocentelli, and Joseph Zigaboo Modeliste, The Meters carved out syncopated polyrhythms and grooves rooted deep in New Orleans' African musical heritage. Porter's legendary heavy pocket bass lines powered classics like 'Cissy Strut,' which hit No. 4 on the R&B chart in 1969. Heralded alongside James Brown, Sly Stone, and George Clinton as a founding father of funk, The Meters have been nominated four times for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.
