Matilda the Musical is coming to the Spreckels Performing Arts Center this month (May 6 - 22).

Little Matilda Wormwood has a fine mind, a fertile imagination and a secret power. Unfortunately, her gifts are unappreciated at home and punished at school. For as horrible as the Wormwood parents are, their little daughter Matilda must face someone even worse at school--the headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, and her terrifiying "Chokey." Will Matilda prevail over her oppressors, freeing her school and beloved teacher, Miss Honey, from the tyrannical Trunchbull? Matilda the Musical, based on the book by the master of off-kilter children's books, Roald Dahl, roared to life in 2012, winning seven Oliviers in London before crossing to Broadway and scoring five Tonys, including Best Book for a Musical. The New York Times called it "the most satisfying and subversive musical ever to come out of Britain."
