Get ready to dance to the music when an all-star lineup of Bay Area musicians celebrates the groundbreaking funk, soul, and psychedelic sounds of Sly & The Family Stone at HopMonk this Friday.

Thank You Sly Stone! started earlier this year as a pair of tribute shows at HopMonk and Moe’s Alley. The chemistry was so good — and the shows so much fun — that the musicians decided they had to do it again.
The powerhouse lineup features Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz, Ray White, Vicki Randle, Marcus Stephens, Mookie Siegel, Steve Adams, Brendan Liu, Ezra Lipp, and special addition Natalie Cressman of the Trey Anastasio Band on trombone and vocals.

Expect an infectious night of funk, rock, soul, big harmonies, deep grooves, and plenty of dancing, celebrating the music that made Sly Stone one of the most influential artists of his generation. If you love classics like “Everyday People,” “Dance to the Music,” “Family Affair,” this is one tribute show you won’t want to miss.

Marin Theatre Company (MTC) presents The White Chip, a sobering comedy of errors (August 27 - September 20).

Success seems to come easily to Steven McAlister. Charismatic and constantly in motion, he’s built a life that looks enviable from the outside — complete with a dream job at a prestigious theatre. But from his very first drink at 12, it’s clear he has been lying to himself for years. Equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking, this “recovery comedy” unfolds from Steven’s own disarmingly candid and charmingly funny perspective. Named for the tokens given in Alcoholics Anonymous to mark the beginning of sobriety, The White Chip follows Steven as he barrels through the highs, lows, and spectacular missteps of addiction, telling a story about the courage to start over, one day at a time. Marin Artistic Director Lance Gardner helms this production.

Anyone in recovery with a chip of any color is welcome to attend The White Chip as our guest.
