The Rundown

Marin natives Nicola and Gemma opened Madrona in September 2023 with a simple goal: bake incredible bread and pastry and give Mill Valley a place to gather. It worked. The cozy bakery on Madrona Street has already landed on the San Francisco Chronicle’s lists of the Bay Area’s best bakeries and top sourdough, and the weekend line is proof that word has gotten out.

The pastry case is all about lamination – butter croissants, almond croissants with house-made frangipane, kouign amann, a gianduja croissant made with TCHO chocolate, and a cheesy pull-apart that disappears fast. Wood-fired loaves like the Madrona Levain and seeded levain rotate on their own schedule, and lunch brings sandwiches on house focaccia and levain. Wash it down with Four Barrel espresso, then linger on the dog-friendly patio. Hate lines? Pre-order online a day ahead. Open Thursday through Sunday.
