The Rundown

Following nearly four decades of setting the standard for Italian baking in Marin, Larkspur’s iconic European-style pasticceria continues to thrive under the stewardship of Gary Rulli and his wife Jeannie. As a destination on Magnolia Avenue since 1988, the family-run operation remains centered on Italian culture, combining tradition and the Bay Area community.

Inside, the Italian-designed showcases display a wide selection of handmade pastries, rustic breads, pressed paninis, macarons, and fresh salads. Chef Rulli, who owns the spot, has built a nationwide reputation for preserving the time-honored art of Italian baking. As the downtown's neighborhood meeting place, locals gather on the sunny outdoor patio for handcrafted espressos made with beans roasted in-house by Chef Rulli.

While the café is a daily staple for locals, its culinary reach is global. As the first Italian-American inducted into the prestigious Accademia Maestri Pasticceria Italiana, Chef Rulli has expertise worldwide, most notably for his famous Panettone. This traditional Milanese Christmas bread requires days of patient preparation using a historic natural yeast starter, making it a seasonal staple shipped to food lovers from all over.

The café is all about creating an authentic Italian coffee and pastry bar experience. By combining traditional recipes with modern quality, this family-run business brings Italian heritage to the locals of Larkspur.
